Good Morning, Sup everybody, it's me.
Today I'm gonna be posting about one of my favourite running series, Akatsuki no Yona, or in Dub it's called Yona of the Dawn. I posted a half-assed review on this series twice but I never talk about this particular series when it actually gives an impact to my life as a good character series.
So, before I talk about why this series is so life-changing, I have to describe you what this series is all about. For those of you who're too lazy to read my old cringey articles, this series is about a princess named Yona who lost everything after her father was murdered by her cousin and her crush, So Won. She and her loyal servant got chased out from the castle and after they met the priest, Ik-Soo, it turns out that she has a prophecy which is to find the four dragons that being the white, blue, green and yellow to serve her as a servant. so together, she, her servant, Hak, and the boy that lives with the priest, Yoon, set out on a long journey as they find the four dragons and help the people of Kouka.
When I first browse through romance section on KissAnime, I was looking for the HOT Anime Series, meaning one of the most popular ones, as it never disappoints *cough cough Kill la Kill, Absolute Duo* I've already watched Akagami no Shirayuki-hime and the actions were really cool. I could use some actions. So, I decided to give a try on Akatsuki no Yona. I don't know how I managed to watch the first couples episodes coz now I really hate useless female anime character, probably coz back then I haven't watch any Shounen and Hak was an amazing Hero. He's a husband material, strong, funny, cool, well-dressed, and handsome. And the first three episodes also did a good job on foreshadowing the romance between the hero and heroine. So that was my humble beginning on the Akatsuki no Yona fandom. Little did I know that I become one of it's biggest followers.
Moving on, so why has this anime changed my life? Why does I keep praising it to the high heaven? Why is it so good? Well, let me tell you, after I watched this anime and read the manga, all of the Malay romance Novels became trash to me. I couldn't look at the Malay Novels the same way I used to look at it now. Why? Becoz this anime gave a meaning to me and thought me what is a character development. Well, I'm not gonna lie, some Malay Romance Novelist did a good job at it, like Hlovate or Melur Jelita but we need more writers like this. I don't know if Kusanagi Sensei is just the artist and not the writer but hey, the arts are really amazing too. It did a great job at conveying the emotions behind each arc.
With this Anime and Manga also, I've learnt how to write a proper story like arranging them in a proper way with different arc. Japanese Manga stories are arranged properly based on arc, like the beginning of the arc, the development of the arc, the climax and the conclusion of the arc which affects the next arc. It's such a good writing technique. Each arc is compiled into a volume and it is divided into five chapters. It makes it easier to read and get into the stories as well as planning the stories.
So, this is my thoughts on Japanese story-telling, but of coz, the story speaks for it's greatness. With each arc, the main character becomes more of an influencer in her own country as a leader as she get to know more people and showed them how strong she is. Of course, the main theme of this story is the development of an ignorant princess to a wise, brave and strong leader, but it also didn't do any injustice to the other genres it involved; such as reverse harem, romance, actions and drama. As the story progress, the romance development between the characters progress, as well as the actions and drama. Yona gets herself into a much heavier drama as the story progresses. That what's makes the story heavy for a mature leader.
Oh yeah, did I mentioned that we get to know the dragons as the story goes?
Last but not least, I don't find myself into Akatsuki no Yona anymore as they upload monthly. I'm waiting till they upload until the arc is finished so that I can binge read it. Overall, really good story.
As for the art, this manga legit get me into character design. I started to become obsessed with character designs becoz of this manga. Let me tell you, it has some of the best clothes you'll see men wear. Now I'm all for men should wear traditional clothes more often coz I think they'll look hot. But yeah, this manga proves it for itself. And I really enjoy it Middle-Asian, old lifestyle.
